I’M DEBT FREE! Goodbye from The Debt Breakup

Folks, this week I made my FINAL debt repayment! On Wednesday I transferred the final $460.00 to my personal loan.

For those of you familiar with the Dave Ramsay show, here’s my blog version of a debt free scream:

I’M DEBT FREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

All balances are at $0.00 – I no longer owe banking institutions anything. My next pay check will be mine, ALL MINE. So, for one final time, lets review my debt stats:

 Starting debt – March 2014

Credit card #1 – $2377.12

Credit Card #2 – $5000.00

Personal loan –  $7397.00

Total debt: $14,774.12

June 2014

Credit card #1 – $0.00

Credit card #2 – $0.00

Personal loan: $0.00

Total debt repaid: $14,774.12 (BOOM!!!)

My journey to Debt Freedom has taken approximately 15 months. I only wish I’d started earlier. If you are reading this blog because you are thinking about getting out of debt, don’t delay – start RIGHT NOW.

A huge THANK YOU to all my fellow debt bloggers for encouraging me along the way. There are so many fantastic PF blogs out there. The days I felt discouraged or ready to give up, I’d just spend time reading over other debt smashing blogs for inspiration!

So this is goodbye and good luck from The Debt Breakup. My next financial journey will be saving for a backpacking adventure through Central America at the end of 2014. I’ve got a steep savings goal to meet by the end of December!

You can follow my progress at www.4000sundays.com – my blog about travel, minimalism and making the most of every day!

Remember – Debt free is SET free. Never give up the war on debt!

Over and out 😉

I broke up with Credit Card #2!!

Yesterday I paid the final amount of $930 to credit card #2.

Things are officially over between us. I am dragging that ball and chain (and interest rate) around no longer!

5k of credit card debt – SMASHED! Balance $0.00

Final debt challenge – my personal loan.

Bigger than either of my credit cards, but I feel like I’ve built some momentum breaking up that last card and I’m ready to go all the way to splitsville with the loan!

Let’s DO this.

Week 23 – Debt & Expense Update (credit card #2 under $1000!)

Woo hoo!

Credit card #2 is under $1000! Only JUST. But I’m taking it as a win! When I started this blog that card was maxed at $5k.

This week I did have a HUGE expense – I paid to have my household items currently stored interstate to be delivered to my parents home. It cost $1870 for the delivery and $140 for the remaining storage for September. While this was a big outlay, it means I will no longer be paying $180 per month like I have for the past almost 2 years.

Now my committed expenses are as follows:

$280  per month – rent

$360 per month – travel

$178 per month –  loan

$25 per month –  internet

$30 per month – phone

$44 per month – gym

$29 per month – loan insurance

My expenses this week looked like this:

Monday: $25.00 groceries, $3.90 coffee

Tuesday: $3.10 personal care, $100 concert ticket, $40.00 put on travel card

Wednesday: $8.95 earrings, $3.95 snack, $4.00 groceries

Thursday: $12.00 personal care, $18.00 drinks, $100 put on travel card, $23.90 gym fees, $2010.00 storage and removal fee

Friday: $3.90 coffee

Saturday: $30 drinks, $40 sports nutrition bars, $22 dinner

Sunday – $12.00 second hand book, $8.00 coffee

Total spend for Week 23: $2, 468.70

Debt summary

Credit card #1 – $0.00

Credit card #2 – $932.00

Personal loan: $6893.69

Total debt remaining: $7825.69

Total starting debt: $14,744.12

Debt reduced by week 23: $6,918.43

Credit Card #1 and I have officially broken up!!!!!!!!

Yeh baby!

I just paid the last balance owing on Credit Card #1! It’s official – things are over between us.

In the 9th week of my debt smashing mission the balance  of Credit Card #1 has gone from  $2377.12 to $0.00

And it feels great!! I’d love to say I will miss his relentless interest and sneaky fees, but I absolutely will not!

The last time I saw his balance as $0.00 was at the start of our relationship. Everything always seems so great in the beginning right?

Anyways, its a WIN on my path to Debt Free!

I’m now onto Credit Card #2. Staring down the  barrel of that $4700 debt feels a bit draining (geez, it seemed like such a battle to knock out Credit Card #1!) BUT it can (and will!) be done.

To debt free, and beyond!!
